SEARSPORT - E.B. White, the author of Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web would have turned 119 years old Wednesday.

To celebrate the famous authors birthday the Penobscot Marine Museum held a special event in his honor.

The Penobscot Marine Museum is embracing Stuart Little this year in honor of E.B. Whites birthday. Setting up a special pond that would be perfect for the little mouse.

Education director Jeana Ganskop said, "Participants can come and they can make a Stuart little clothespin doll, and then they can also make a wooden boat and then they can put their Stuart little on their sailboat and they can float him across our model pond just like Stuart little goes across the pond in Central Park in the book."

They also got kids into the spirit by reading the original stuart little book.

Participant Tanja Koster said, "The books... are every child I think has been read to hopefully."

The museum normally has an older crowd coming in to look at their ship models, and they hope activities like this will bring in younger kids.

Interpreter Lawrence Pennington said, "It's beginning to show that there is an interest and we see more young kids coming to the Penobscot Marine Museum."

"I think it's great to make things to do things with your hands and to make that connection with literature it's great to be reading and then connecting that with the history and the history of our area here in maine," said Ganskop.

Even adults got in on some of the activities.

"There's something for everyone here including me. I am going to put it in the water and race my brother in law," said Koster.
