11-hour soccer game to remember Cassidy Charette Featured

WATERVILLE - Hundreds of people will hit the field this Sunday for an 11-hour soccer game to remember a former Messalonskee soccer player.

The Shine On Cass Foundation will hold its 3rd Annual Kick Around the Clock for Cass event at Thomas College in Waterville.

The former midfielder for the Eagles passed away back in 2014 after a hayride accident.

It will take place on Smith Field starting at 9 a.m.

It runs 11 hours in honor of Cassidy's number 11 jersey number she wore.

The event hopes to shine her light in the community

"We have about 22 teams and they sign up for hour long slots," said Riley Field, a friend and classmate of Cassidy who organized the event. "People sign up and there is someone delegating on the field and the time keeps running and we don't keep score or anything. When that game is done, they switch pennies really quickly and the next team runs on."

This year, the event will include a new mini-games section for kids in grades k-5.

There will also be food provided by Sheba's Wicked Kitchen, a popular food truck in Oakland, the Darling's Ice Cream for a Cause Truck and a dunk tank.

All proceeds go to the Shine On Cass Foundation.

You can get more information by visiting the Shine On Cass Facebook Page, emailing [email protected] or by calling (207) 314-6996.
