YARMOUTH - A Yarmouth man running for U.S. Congress was been arrested in Texas.
Zak Ringelstein, a Democrat who hopes to unseat Independent Senator Angus King in November, was attempting to deliver food, water, toys and blankets to children of illegal immigrants who have been separated from their families when the arrest took place, according to his campaign.
Ringelstein's staff said he arrived at an internment camp in Mcallen, Texas with a truck filled with supplies and asked to visit the facility.
He was confronted by border patrol officers who said he did not have permission to be there and was warned he was impeding their operation. He was arrested when he apparently refused to leave.
It was not immediately clear what charges Ringelstein may be facing, His campaign said it had not heard from him since his arrest.
