Former Acadia National Park official illegally accepted gifts

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK - A former Acadia National Park senior official violated federal law, according to a report released Thursday by the Office of the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of the interior.

The report states that a National Park Service official accepted around $14,000 in gifts from a nonprofit organization and its board members.

The report states that the gifts he received were for meals, a yacht vacation and money for airfare.

The nonprofit was not named in the report but did state that the official was employed by the organization before and after retiring from the park service.

The findings were presented to the U.S. Attorney's office for the District of Maine and the Department of Justice, which declined prosecution.
