BANGOR - A local businessman has pleaded guilty to running an illegal marijuana operation.

Christopher Ruhlin, 49, of Holden now is awaiting his sentence. Ruhlin is the owner of Herbal Tea and Tobacco Co.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Rhulin conspired with others to grow marijuana in Frankfort between 2010 and 2016. Officials say he then sold it to medical pot patients who rented part of the building connected to his business.

Ruhlin was not registered as a medical marijuana provider. In addition, the Frankfort growing facility was not registered with the state as required by law.

As part of a plea agreement, Ruhlin has agreed to forfeit $115,000. He faces a term of more than 20 years in prison when he is sentenced at a later date.
