Bangor Public Library benefits from friends' group book sale

BANGOR - The Friends of the Bangor Public Library held its annual book sale over the weekend.

More than 10,000 books donated by people from the community members were available for purchase during Saturday's event.

Proceeds from past sales have been used to purchase benches and a bicycle rack now set up by the lower entrance as well as folding chairs and an annual membership to the New England Genealogical and Historical Society.

"We use to have our sale in the library," Kurt Keef, president of the friends' group, said. "When they had their expansion, they didn't have any storage space so we got storage donated from the Creative Arts Center in Brewer. So we store our books there, sort them and then we bring them over to the Elks Club [which] gives us a deal on this room for three days."

Keef said $5,000 to $7,000 worth of books were sold.
