WELLS - Officials from Wells High School decided Wwednesday night to change how they use their mascot, leaving Skowhegan High School the only Maine school using Native American imagery for its sports teams.

The Wells-Ogunquit Community School District board of directors voted unanimously to adopt a committee's recommendation to remove all Native American imagery but to maintain the name Warriors -- a measure favored by 70 percent of the members of its Mascot Advisory Committee.

Superintendent Jim Daly said it could cost as much as $10,000 to remove the imagery from all schools across the district.
