Bar Harbor now has the chance to buy the ferry terminal from the Maine Department of Transportation and turn it into a marina.
The town has a small amount of working waterfront so the proposed marina would provide an opportunity for it to have much more.
While some people thought the numbers would not add up and were worried about the town losing money, others said it is a great idea.
"That will bring more business to the town and more revenue to the state," Apratim Khanal, manager of Bar Harbor Gifts and Clothing, said.
The property is located on Eden Street -- a mile and a half northwest of the town center.
Residents also voted in favor of a $600,000 bond issue for a parking kiosk and meter system to be used in downtown Bar Harbor beginning in 2019.
