Moose festival in Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN - Moose have attracted people to Maine for years, this year especially.

Many gathered in Skowhegan for a chance to receive a moose hunting permit while others came to beat a world record.

Out of the thousands of applicants, only 2,500 people got one.

Project coordinator Mary Haley said, "So this is actually a festival organized around the i-f-w moose permit lottery drawing. It's a yearly tradition."

Several of those who came for the permit also participated in attempting to set a world record. To do so, 995 people had to simultaneously moose call.

There had been no previous record for moose calls. Over 1,000 people joined for the world record attempt.
