MACHIAS – Things continue to look up at Machias Valley Airport.
The community has been working to make improvements to the facility and is now getting some federal help.
Senator Susan Collins has announced that Machias has been awarded more than $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The money will be used to reconstruct the runway, which is badly in need of improvements. Airport officials also have been working to replace the terminal and plan to add fuel tanks and hangar space.
Local leaders hope that the improved airport will attract more people and help spark economic activity.
