SKOWHEGAN – Skowhegan will be celebrating one of Maine’s most majestic creatures this weekend with a three-day festival planned to coincide with the state’s annual moose permit lottery.
The Skowhegan Moose Festival runs from Friday through Sunday at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds, organizers said.
“We’re holding it at the fairgrounds and so 2018 is the 200th anniversary of the Skowhegan State Fair. So it really helps kick off that summer season of fairs,” Kristina Cannon of the nonprofit group Main Street Skowhegan said.
Main Street Skowhegan hopes the festival will bring a lot of business to town.
The festival will feature several events, from games and wine pairing to bed races.
On Saturday, the community will attempt to break a world record for the most people simultaneously calling a moose.
