FREEPORT - A man is dead and multiple others are injured in a serious accident on I-295.

State police said around 10am Saturday 50-year old Raymond Bisson was traveling in the southbound lane near Freeport when his car went out of control and struck another vehicle driven by 53 year old Michael Cox of Durham and spun out.

The vehicle was then traveling backwards until it hit a guardrail, sending it into a third vehicle in the northbound lane.

The passengers in the third vehicle, a family from connecticut, the driver 50-year old David Pendred, his wife, 45 year old Laura Pendred and their 10 year old son Micheal were all transported to Maine medical center with non life threatening injuries, according to police.

Bisson who crossed the median was not wearing his seatbelt and passed away.

Lt. Erik Baker said, "It was a very heavy impact which created a lot of damage and so we may be moving the vehicle from the highway to remove the person."

Troopers said speed is a likely factor in the crash, but are in the process of reconstructing the accident to determine the exact cause of the crash.
