The Maine Department of Transportation has denied their request to delay the implementation of the new, higher rates.
The new rate structure was announced in April and will set standard rates for all the ferries that travel to Maine islands.
Isleboro residents argued the rate to their island should be cut because it's such a short trip and the ticket prices will increase to a point it will make it difficult for residents and visitors.
Residents learned Thursday the request for a delay has been denied and the new rates will go into effect Monday. The town is filing an appeal.
