Middle school students make cards for Somerset County deputies

Written by

OLD TOWN - Last week's tragedy in Norridgewock reached the hearts of every Mainer and beyond, including our children.

One girl from Old Town, who herself watches dad put on a badge each day in Veazie, wants to let sheriffs in Somerset County know they're appreciated.

Emma, a sixth grader, invited her classmates at Leonard Middle School to write cards to the deputies, thanking them for their service and saying they're sorry for the pain they're going through.

"I felt bad because I don't think a lot of sixth graders would be doing this, so I thought it was a cool idea," said Emma Sirois, who organized the card-making event. "I hope they feel happy."

Emma says her mom will be mailing the cards to the sheriff's office soon.

Her teachers say they're blown away by the thoughtfulness of the kids.
