NORRIDGEWOCK - A reward of up to $20,000 is now being offered to help bring a man accused of killing a sheriff’s deputy to justice.

The FBI announced this afternoon, the reward is being offered as the search for John Williams, 29, of Madison continues.

The search for him began early Wednesday morning after the body of Corporal Eugene Cole was found along the Mercer Road in Norridgewock.

Authorities believe he stole the deputies cruiser after the shooting and held up a local convenience store before ditching the vehicle and going on the run.

Police believe he’s still in the Norridgewock area, but have launched a nationwide manhunt in case he slipped away before police managed to saturate the area.

Williams is considered to be armed and extremely dangerous.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Maine State Police.
