UMAINE holds raffle for free tuition

ORONO - We all know tuition can cost a lot of money.

So the University of Maine is offering a chance to win a year's worth of free tuition with a raffle.

Thousands of students participate to take a chance for something that will cover a major expense in their lives.

President of the UMaine alumni association John Diamond said, "It's fun to make the call to the individual who has won to say guess what you've just won a year's worth of tuition at the University of Maine, and sometimes they don't believe it. One year a student who one was actually watching us stream the drawing live on the computer and couldn't believe he heard his name mentioned."

Students can head to and ask for tickets.

The suggested donation is $5 but is not required.

Prior to graduation Shonna interned at News12 Long Island.
