WALDOBORO - Woman found dead inside an overturned vehicle in Medomak.

Sunday morning around 7 a.m., Waldoboro police responded to a report of a car submerged in the Medomak River at the intersection of Atlantic Highway and Kalers Korner rd.

They observed the vehicle was upside down and they could not tell if anyone was inside it.

A diver from the marine patrol with the assistance of the Maine State Police dive team was able to get the registration number off the vehicle and confirmed there was a deceased woman in the car.

Traffic was shut down for one hour while a crane removed the car from the river.

The victim was extricated and identified as Melissa Sawyer, 48, from Damariscotta.

The accident is under investigation by the Waldoboro police and is being reconstructed by the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
