Local cooks compete in Bangor Fire's annual chili & chowder cook-off

BANGOR - Local cooks put their recipes to the test Friday night at Bangor Fire's annual chili and chowder cook-off.

Over 300 people flocked to Hollywood Casino in Bangor to get a taste of the competition and vote for their favorites.

Bangor firefighters hold the event each year to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Friday night's event raised $6,000 for M.D.A.

Multiple other departments competed, including Augusta, Castine, Old Town and Brewer.

"The I.F.F. (International Association of Fire Fighters) has a long time partnership with M.D.A. since 1954, so all the locals try to support other locals doing those fundraising events," said Lt. Andrew Emery of the Bangor Fire Dept.

ABC 7 & Fox 22's Blake Lipton and Gina Marini were judges at this year's cook-off.

Cooks competed in a number of categories. The winners are:
