Deputy collides with dirt bike in Medway

MEDWAY - Authorities are investigating a crash between a Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputy and a dirt bike in Medway.

Officials said Corporal Daren Mason was traveling on the Pattagumpus Road in Medway around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

He spotted an ATV and a dirt bike coming toward him and turned around to stop them when he noticed some violations.

While attempting to stop the vehicles, the driver of the dirt bike stopped quickly and the deputy had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The dirt bike ended up colliding with the passenger side of the cruiser and the sheriff's vehicle struck a frozen snow bank and came to rest on top.

Corporal Mason wasn't hurt, but the unidentified driver of the dirt bike was brought to the hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

The crash remains under investigation today.
