PENOBSCOT AND PISCATAQUIS COUNTIES - The longtime Penobscot and Piscataquis County District Attorney has decided to step aside and not run for re-election, but he's not planning on retiring.

District Attorney Christopher Almy withdrew his nomination papers two days before the filing deadline when he learned a co-worker Assistant District Attorney Marianne Lynch was interested in the job.

"I thought it was a good time to give another person a chance to run the office and turn the reigns over," said DA Almy. "Whether or not I continue to work as an A.D.A. or Assistant D.A. is up to the next District Attorney.

Almy has served as District attorney since 1985. He said the job is exciting, competitive, and forces him to hustle.

And he looks forward to passing the torch.
