Governor LePage upset justice no longer wants to retire

Written by

AUGUSTA - Governor LePage had strong words Tuesday for a Maine Supreme Court justice he said went back on a promise to retire.

LePage released an open letter to Justice Joseph Jabar, in which he said Jabar had promised to retire after this year.

The alleged agreement was made because LePage wanted to appoint a conservative justice, and Jabar would be able to collect a pension, having served 20 years for the state.

The governor said Jabar has "reneged" on the deal and said that Mainers deserve good moral character from justices.

So far the entire supreme court has refused to comment.
