Restaurant rings in Chinese New Year

BANGOR - Millions on Friday rang in the Chinese new year, and at least one Bangor business is going above and beyond to celebrate.

Oriental Jade is hosting events for families all throughout the week. Kids were invited to paint handmade clay dogs Monday evening, because 2018 is the year of the dog.

There is also incense and symbolic food in the entryway, and it's hard to ignore a giant dragon costume - operated by two people inside - swooping by diners. The local owners say there's just a different atmosphere this time of year.

"This is the best time of the year!" co-owner Lilian Lo exclaimed. "Everyone is celebrating for Chinese New Year. [In China] we have actually 15 days of celebrations. At Oriental Jade, we are having a ten-day long celebration. Every day we have different events."

For a list of events, visit the restaurant's website, give them a call, or stop in to them on Stillwater Avenue.
