Although the task force was established last year, it has only been meeting for the past couple of months.
One of the task force members says it is likely to be 2019 before any recommendations are made to the full legislature.
"Everybody should have healthcare," says Sen. Geoffrey Gratwick, (D)-Bangor. "We shouldn't have all these uninsured people who don't get good care."
"It has to be simple because we're getting driven crazy by all the complexities," he adds. "No one understands what's happening. The third thing, it has to be affordable."
Gratwick says he expects there will be resistance from insurers, hospitals, and doctors as the task force tries to find something that will serve future generations.
