Special Olympians speed skate at Bangor arena

BANGOR - There aren't many who can keep up with the enthusiasm of Special Olympians.

About two dozen Penobscot-area Special Olympic athletes raced around Sawyer Ice Arena Monday during the first day of the local winter games.

Nordic and Alpine skiing and snowshoeing took place later in the day at Hermon Mountain with competitions continuing into Tuesday.

Bangor athlete Cailtlyn Gunn said "I don't know for sure if I did beat my record for speed skating or not. It all depends on what my time is."

As our American athletes compete for gold in South Korea, our local Special Olympians compete for their own medals.
