WASHINGTON D.C. - Maine's junior senator, Independent Angus King, is joining the conversation following a bi-partisan budget agreement in Washington.

King released a statement, saying the budget deal included important provisions for Maine.

The senator mentioned a number of what he said are benefits of the deal, including funding to fight the opioid crisis and improve rural broadband access.

King was quick to focus on the origin of the money in the budget, mentioning the federal tax plan he said will pass along a large amount of debt to future generations.

King also said "Now that we've reached a bipartisan budget deal, I hope we can harness this momentum to get serious about putting our fiscal house in order."
