Alleged arsonist makes first court appearance

BANGOR- A man accused of setting fire to his home with a longtime female companion trapped inside made his first court appearance on Friday.

65 year-old Fred Roberts is being held on $200,000 cash bail, facing charges of attempted murder and arson.

It was six o'clock Wednesday morning when he allegedly poured gasoline inside the home on Hudson Road in Corinth and set the house on fire.

70 year-old Barbara King was forced to jump from the second floor window to escape the flames.

She is now recovering at Eastern Maine Medical Center, and will likely need to continue treatment at an inpatient rehab.

Roberts was given a court appointed lawyer, and will appear in court again on March 12th.

He also is not allowed to have any contact with King, and is not allowed to use or posses incendiary devices.
