"This is the first time our company engaged itself in a large scale solar effort," said Peter Vigue, chairman of Cianbro.
Cianbro recently completed the largest solar producing energy facility in the state.
"This is a great opportunity for our company since we developed it, we own it and operate it," Vigue said.
The Pittsfield solar project covers nearly 60 acres off Route 2 with more than 40,000 panels.
"The energy goes into the Central Maine Power system, and is sold to people who are looking to buy renewable energy," said Vigue.
A group of 100 employees completed the project in less than five months. The company has plans to get involved in more solar projects as well.
"This was an opportunity for us to prove to the industry that we're capable of doing the work, but we're also very interested in investing in opportunities like this in the future," Vigue said.
