Snow was already falling at 9:30 when crews responded to a call at Leaves and Blooms Greenhouse on Route 15.
Officials say flames were shooting out of a barn that was about four feet from the owners home.
“She was cooking. She does baker, breads, and pastries, and all that sort of stuff. She and her daughter were outside filling the wood boiler being this time of year. And she turned around and she saw smoke coming from the main garage,” said Chief Joe Guyotte of the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department.
The barn is a total loss.
Firefighters were able to save the house, although there is smoke damage in the attic.
The chief says they had to truck water in to fight the blaze, and given the weather conditions and the proximity of the house to the fire, it was a very good save.
