HANCOCK – Monday morning, a passing motorist in Hancock discovered a body in Monument Park.
Around 8:30 a.m., Monday, a body was discovered near a bench in Monument Park next to the Hancock town office.
Hancock County sheriff’s deputies spent a couple of hours at the scene before ruling out foul play as a cause of death.
A clerk at the town office said the body was discovered by a town resident who alerted authorities.
According to a release from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the body has been identified as Anthony Spellman, 53.
At about the same time the body was discovered, a nearby elderly boarding home reported one of their residents missing. A person identified as the administrator of the boarding home declined to comment. The sheriff’s statement identified the man as the person reported missing from the boarding home.
