Warming center in Augusta hopes to help local people

AUGUSTA - A local organization wants to help people who are homeless or financially insecure.

"Bridging the Gap" is a ministry of Emmanuel Lutheran Episcopal Church providing people with a place to escape the winter weather. Also to supply them with clothing and other necessities.

The center is located at 9 Summer Street in Augusta. It's open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will remain open until the end of March 2018.

Project director Sarah Miller said "Our mission is to serve the community, so all of our decisions are made by filtering through that one question. What's going to be the best interests of the guest and customers we are serving."

The building's current site, the St. Mark's Parish Hall, is being sold and they're looking to relocate to another facility, so they can continue to serve people in need.
