Senator Collins visits Fourteenth Street School

BANGOR - The Fourteenth Street School in Bangor got a special visitor today.

Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, came by to participate in an assembly to celebrate the school's recent designation as a "National Blue Ribbon School."

It's one of only three schools in Maine and only 342 in the country to be recognized with the highly prestigious achievement in 2017.

Senator Collins said "This is a really big deal for the city of Bangor and it speaks so well to the efforts of the teachers, the students, the parents, the administrators, the staff, everybody coming together to ensure these children have the very best education."

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools for overall academic excellence or for making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap.

Senator Collins presented the school with her congressional record statement honoring the Fourteenth Street School's achievement.
