New details in Andrew Balcer trial

AUGUSTA - A Winthrop teen charged with killing his parents last Halloween will be tried as an adult.

That's the ruling from a Kennebec County Superior Court judge Thursday.

According to a spokes person for the Maine Attorney General's Office prosecutors say Andrew Balcer stabbed both his parents to death.

At the time Balcer was nearly 18-years-old.

During a hearing last week the defense said Balcer claims to be transgender and killed his parents after a verbally abusive gender remark from his father.

No trial date has been confirmed.
