Orono votes to extend marijuana moratorium

ORONO - The town of Orono will extend the six-month marijuana moratorium.

The decision coming after a unanimous vote at last night's Orono town council meeting.

Retail pot sales will not be legal until the issue is addressed again. Marijuana social clubs will also be put on hold while the city works on plans to regulate the drug.

Councilor Sam Kunz said the main reason to extend the moratorium is an abundance of caution. He added the council wants to know exactly what the state is deciding before they take the next steps towards selling pot in Orono.
