"Southwest Harbor Week" kicked off this past weekend

SOUTHWEST HARBOR - "Southwest Harbor Week" is a new event this year.

The quiet side of Mount Desert Island kicked off a full week of activities last Saturday with Octoberfest. The event has different programs and activities happening every day this week and it ends with the MDI Marathon on Sunday.

A 1922 Detroit electric car from the Seal Cove Auto Museum will lead the runners into Southwest Harbor.

Museum Executive Director Raney Bench stated "We're so excited to be part of Southwest Harbor Week it's the first time we've really celebrated all the things that are available on this side of the island and the Seal Cove Auto Museum is an anchor to this community and so we're thrilled to be a partner."

The museum is having an event of it's own from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.

The Southwest Harbor Fire Department will also be having an open house that day. The LifeFlight helicopter plans to land at 10 a.m. There will be trucks to climb on, demonstrations and gear to try on.
