HERMON — There are more than 3.5 million truck drivers nationwide and more than 33,000 in the state of Maine alone.
A local organization and an iconic truck stop are teaming up to show truck drivers from around the state that they are appreciated.
It’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week this week and the Maine Motor Transport Association is giving out free gift cards at Dysart’s in an effort to recognize those hard-working truck drivers.
Randy Devault is the training coordinator for the Maine Motor Transport Association.
“This has started several years ago. It’s a nationwide thing, we just take our part here. Some states do it, some states do not, and we have been doing this for the last several years. Last year, we gave out T-shirts for all of the drivers, and this year we are giving out gift cards,” said Devault.
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week runs from Sept. 12-18.
