AUGUSTA-Strong support today from the Legislature in the latest effort to arm Maine Forest Rangers.
The Maine House today voting 132 to 15 to not only arm the rangers, but also provide them with training at the Criminal Justice Academy.
It has been the topic of debate for several years with proponents saying these law enforcement officers should be armed just like warden’s and police.
Governor Lepage vetoed a similar measure in 2014 because that bill didn’t include a way to fund the program.
It’s different this time around.
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
