AUGUSTA – Spokespeople for the governor’s office deny any prison sentences have been commuted in relation to a plan to downsize the state’s jail population.
Others, however, said they’re being told prisoners from three of the state’s prisons are being released early on the governor’s say-so.
Representative Robert Alley, D-Beals Island, said “He’s already done that to nine and let them out already, which where are they going. What communities are they going back to. Somebody’s going to have to support them. This is just another step, as far as I’m concerned just another attempt at hurting Washington County.”
WVII reached out to the governor’s office for official comment, but no one was willing to speak on camera.
