An effort to control the use of some ingredients which can be used to make meth in Augusta

An effort to control the use of some ingredients which can be used to make meth in Augusta
0shares

AUGUSTA – Maine lawmakers are considering a bill that could make it more difficult to find relief from allergies.

It would require a prescription for some medications that can currently be purchased over the counter. It’s an effort to control the use of some ingredients which can be used to make methamphetamine.

Representatives from the Consumer Healthcare Products Association are in Maine this week to testify against the bill.

They said it would create a big inconvenience for allergy sufferers and it would also drive up the costs.

Maine is already limiting the amount of medications that can be purchased if they contain ingredients that can be used to make meth.

Lawmakers will tackle the issue tomorrow.

If approved, Maine would become one of a handful of states that requires a prescription to purchase Sudafed and similar medications.
