BANGOR – A suicidal man is getting the help he needs thanks to good work from a Bangor Police Officer.
Officials said they received a call around lunchtime from a man who reported his brother wanted to harm himself. He said he was in the water in Bangor, but that’s all police had to work with.
They fanned out around the city to check the banks of the Penobscot river and other places water can be found.
Officer Duncan Bowie decided to check a construction site behind Eastern Maine Medical Center and it payed off.
Sgt. Tim Cotton said “When he got there he found some footprints over a very steep bank where you wouldn’t typically find footprints. It’s a difficult spot to get down to. So Duncan followed the footprints down and discovered the man on the ice, shirtless and lying on the ice.”
Other Bangor officers and Bangor fire fighters responded.
The man was rescued from the ice and taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center to be checked out. No word on his condition.
