BANGOR – Three people from the Bangor area are accused of taking part in a kidnapping plot in North Carolina.
They are among five people facing charges following their arrests earlier this week.
North Carolina authorities say a man from Massachusetts hired them to snatch his 17-year-old son from the home of his mother and return him to Massachusetts.
Neighbors called police Wednesday after seeing two vehicles pull up to the home and placing the teen in restraints. The boy was hollering to let him go.
A search was launched and the suspects were later spotted and arrested in Virginia.
Lorraine Colpitts, 59, of Brewer, Michael Warman, 38, of Bangor, Mickey Mitton, 32, of Bangor and Tony Winslow, 49, of Texas are all accused of kidnapping the teen.
The father, Rickey Thomas of Massachusetts has since turned himself in and is also facing charges.
Colpitts owns a business called “Safe and Sound Youth Transport Incorporated.”
According to its website, it offers “transport of your teen from your home or your child’s current placement to your chosen destination in the most professional, yet nurturing and efficient manner possible.”
