WASHINGTON D.C. – Both of Maine’s senators voted against the confirmation of Education Secretary Betsey Devos, saying they had concerns with her.
Now that she has been confirmed, Senator Angus King is pledging to continue to fight for Maine’s public schools.
Senator King released a statement shortly after Vice President Mike Pence cast a tie breaking vote to approve Devos.
He said that he continues to have concerns and calls it his responsibility to fight for Maine’s students, making sure they have “an equal opportunity to a quality education.”
Senator Susan Collins was one of two republicans to vote against Devos’ confirmation Tuesday.
