AUGUSTA – Tuesday night Governor LePage delivered his state of the state address, just hours after calling the legislature irrelevant.
The governor said the theme of his budget is “do no harm.” LePage said he was speaking to the Maine people saying the Maine economy and way of life is under attack.
LePage started by discussing ideology, saying liberals are trying to turn Maine into a quote “socialist utopia”, saying they haven’t learned from history.
The governor also said industries are laying off hardworking Mainers or leaving the state entirely.
Meanwhile he addressed taxes, saying 10 percent of the population is paying two thirds of the tax burden.
LePage also discussed the minimum wage, saying higher prices hurt the elderly and restaurant workers.
About the referendum questions, he said the process needs to be reformed.
He also pushed for more to be done when it comes to the mentally disabled.
The governor also pointed out an Albion couple who lost their home after it was brought into foreclosure. He said they should have been able to keep their home because of a loophole.
