PALMYRA – Two people are confirmed dead after an apartment home fire in Palmyra early Tuesday morning.
Maine State Fire Marshal’s said they have found two bodies in the burning rubble. Six other residents were able to escape unhurt.
The call came in around 3 a.m. on the Square Road after a neighbor reported the fire. The apartment complex is destroyed, along with a nearby mobile home, after a propane tank blew up due to the flames
The Pittsfield fire chief said he thinks the fire broke out in upstairs area of building. “It appears it started in one of the apartments up over the garage, we’re not sure. That was completely engulfed and starting to fall in when I got here and I was the first one on scene.”
Investigators will pull the bodies once the flames die down later this morning and will take the remains to the Maine State Medical Examiner’s Office.
