AUGUSTA – Currently state construction in the Augusta area needs approval from the legislative council.
That approval has recently come under fire after Governor LePage tried to locate a forensic psychiatric unit on the grounds of Riverview Hospital.
Now a republican representative says it’s time to remove that authority from the legislative council.
representative Ellie Espling, R-New Gloucester said “For almost thirty projects spanning a number of years, a number of administrations and legislatures that never had legislative council approval. I say if it’s not always used, why is it still in the statute.”
The committee is expected to vote on the issue within the week.
The governor plans to build the facility known as a step-down unit on the Bangor campus of the Dorothea Dix hospital.
