AUGUSTA – Maine lawmakers are working to bring the state in compliance with federal ID standards.
Senator Bill Diamond has introduced a bill to make the state fall in line with the real ID law.
Mainers already can’t use their licenses to visit military bases and other federal facilities. If the state is still not in compliance by next January Maine ID’s won’t be allowed as identification for domestic flights.
Diamond said Mainers deserve to have the same right to travel as those in other states.
Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree has introduced a similar bill on the federal level.
