STATEWIDE – It’s now more difficult for Mainer’s wishing to visit military bases and some other federal facilities.
As of January 30th, you can no longer use your Maine identification to gain entrance.
That’s because Maine is one of the states that still hasn’t complied with the “Real ID Act” which calls for enhanced security measures on ID’s to help prevent terror attacks.
Maine has taken steps to comply with some of the regulations, but lawmakers passed a law several years ago that prohibits the state from fully embracing the new system. If the state fails to meet those regulations by next January, Mainer’s also wont be allowed to use their Maine ID’s to board domestic flights. They’ll have to use a passport.
