BANGOR – A contagious bacteria has the potential to spread through the Katahdin Region. And doctors want you to take the necessary precaution.
Millinocket Regional Hospital confirmed three cases of the whooping cough in the Katahdin Region.
Missy Martin, Millinocket Regional Hospital said “There has been an increased number in the US and Maine.”
Pertussis better known as whooping cough starts off as what seems to be a regular cold, but can last for weeks to months. It is caused by a bacteria called pertussis.
Although washing and covering your cough is important vaccines are the best way to prevent the whooping cough. The vaccines should be given as an infant but people can be caught up at any age.
