East Millinocket – People in East Millinocket are very concerned about the future of the local paper mill.
We broke the news last week that heavy demolition equipment had been hauled to the closed mill, but no one knew what was happening. Turns out a demolition company now has plans to demolish several of the buildings.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection, North American Recovery Management has permission to remove equipment from the buildings, but razing them will require additional permits. The review process wont begin until the company files additional paperwork.
Town and state officials are concerned because an unnamed company has expressed interest in buying the site for other purposes. They fear that won’t happen if the demolition plans move ahead and are calling on state officials to prevent that from happening.
