VIRGINIA – The Department of Defense held a farewell ceremony Wednesday afternoon to honor President Obama and his tenure as Commander in Chief.
President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden attended the Armed Forces full honor review farewell ceremony, It was held at joint base Myer – Henderson Hall.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter hosted the event, thankiing the president for his service, which President Obama met with thanks of his own.
The President stated “And so although I recognize the formalities require me listening to praise directed at me, i want to turn the tables. I am still commander in chief so i get to do what i want to do and i thank you.” He added “By stepping forward and volunteering, by raising your right hand and taking that oath, each of you made a solemn pledge. You committed yourselves to a life of service and sacrifice.
The ceremony comes shortly after the president sat down with the Joint Chiefs of Staff to ensure a smooth transition, as the country prepares to welcome the administration of President Elect Donald Trump.
