AUGUSTA – Recreational marijuana will be legal in Maine by the end of the month.
Governor LePage has signed off on a referendum that legalizes pot, but he still doesn’t like the law that was passed on election day. As it stands now, marijuana would become legal on January 30th for anyone 21 and over.
Governor LePage believes the law will need a lot of revisions and will be costly to implement. He also thinks lawmakers should at least place a moratorium on the sale of legal pot until those rules and the funding is in place.
That could take several months.
We’ll be talking with Matthew Dunlap, Secretary of State about the situation today and will have a full report tonight at 6:00 p.m.
